In Midlothian ISD, we believe in unlocking the unlimited potential of every child in an environment that fosters success beyond the classroom. Here, in our classrooms, you will see your child grow academically, as well as their ability to collaborate with peers, communicate effectively and approach problems critically and creatively.
During the past 12 months, 5,014 community members came together to design an engaging learning experience and identify essential life skills to ensure our children are equipped to achieve their goals and be productive, thriving members of society. Our parents, teachers, students, staff and area business leaders have high expectations for our children, and the scope is far beyond what any standardized test, such as STAAR/EOC, could measure.
I am excited to share with you MISD’s very first comprehensive Performance Tracker designed by you, our community through future-ready discussion sessions, surveys and focus groups held throughout the 2017-2018 school year. This is a well-rounded tracking system that reflects what our community values in our local schools and the measures you believe best demonstrate student growth.
While our process will not end our students taking the standardized test, it has allowed MISD to:
- Develop a local accountability system demonstrating evidence of student learning
- Identify measures for student achievement
- Provide a rigorous and descriptive reporting tool to parents and community members who are the investors of our youth
In MISD, we believe in having accountability. As an investor with your tax dollars, we want you to hold us to a much higher standard; therefore, our measures include the following key areas:
- Academic Excellence
- Social and Emotional Wellbeing/Safety & Security
- Fiscal Responsibility
- Human Resource Services
- Communication & Partnerships
Thank you to our community who participated in a variety of input opportunities throughout the past year. Because of your voice, we believe the MISD Performance Tracker is a strong report highlighting all areas of the district. We will continue to meet the standards established by the state, but it’s only a one-day standardized test and doesn’t reflect the whole student nor the whole district. Together, we have created an in-depth measurement tool that goes above and beyond when determining student growth and college and career readiness.
